August, 1945
Information about the August, 1945 season
is difficult to come by but here is what I was
able to locate. The photo to the right is
described as the Buckeyes Murderers Row and
all the batters had .300 or better averages
The Buckeyes beat the Chicago American
Giants early in August, 7-3 and 3-2. The
Buckeyes also traveled to Newark (NJ) to play
the Newark Eagles.
In the first game of the doubleheader the
Buckeyes were held to no runs and only 3 hits
by future Dodger star, Don Newcombe.
In the second game, the Buckeyes Lovell
"Big Pitch" Hardin held the Eagles to three
runs and 4 hits in 7 innings. Avelino Canizares
drove home the winning run for the Buckeyes
in the top of the 9th. Buckeyes won 4-3.
