Just as teams do today, the Buckeyes picked up an additional player
in their stretch run and for their possible appeance in the World Series.
After playing a double header at Birmingham against the Black Barons
the previous weekend, winning the first game 7-2 and the second game
called after seven with the teams tied 4-4, the Buckeyes added some pitching.
In the 7-2 win, the Buckeyes' Quincy Trouppe led the scoring with a home
run. The Buckeyes after the game picked up hurler Roosevelt "Duro" Davis
from the Indianapolis-Cincinnati Clowns. Davis, about 40 years old at the
time of the trade, was nearing the end of his career.
On Thursday, August 30th, the Buckeyes are scheduled to play the
Memphis Red Sox in a twilight night double header at Municipal Stadium
with the hope that the team will clinch the League championship that
evening.
There is expected to be a huge crowd as World War II traveling
restrictions had finally been eliminated.
