1945 Negro League World Series Game Two

League Park, Cleveland, Ohio - September 16, 1945

After the Buckeyes won Game One of the
series, both teams traveled to Dayton for an
exhibition game that the Grays won.
Game Two of the Series was played before
10,000 fans on an overcast Sunday afternoon
at Cleveland's League Park featuring Buckeyes'
Eugene Bremer (left) pitching against the Grays'
John Wright. The Grays would score single runs
in the 4th and 5th innings to take a two run lead.
Willie Grace a/k/a the "St. Louis Slugger" led
off the bottom of the 7th for the Buckeyes with a
Home Run over the Gem Safety Razor sign in right
  field.
It was the only Home Run hit by either team in
the Series. He was showered with money from the
fans after he crossed home plate.
A double and an error would score another
Buckeyes run in the 7th to tie the game. After
holding the Grays scoreless in the top of the 8th
and 9th innings, the Buckeyes would start the
bottom of the 9th with a double by Quincey
Trouppe. He would go to third on a wild pitch.
The Grays would intentionally walk the next
two Buckeyes batters to load the bases and pitcher
Eugene Bremer came to bat. Unhappy fans jeered
when no pinch hitter was announced. However,
Bremer would hit what would be considered a
ground rule double scoring the winning run but was
  credited with a single.
The official final score was 3-2 as rules only
give credit for the number of bases needed for a run
to score. Many newspapers listed the final score as
  4-2.
