1945 Negro League World Series Game Three

Griffith Stadium, Washington, D.C. - September 18, 1945

Buddy Armour

After the Buckeyes won Games One and Two
of the series, both teams traveled to Pittsburgh for
Game Three. However, the game was rained out
and the teams went to Washington D.C. where Game
  Four was scheduled.
The train the Buckeyes were on was running
late and the team went straight from the train
station to the ballpark just as the Detroit Tigers and
  Washington Senators game was ending.
George Jefferson pitched a three hit shutout
against the Grays, the first time the Grays were
  shutout since 1942.
Buddy Armour's bases loaded two out single
in the 3rd scored two. Grace drove in a run earlier
in the inning on a sacrifice fly. Welmaker's error on
a bunt that inning led to two Buckeye unearned runs.
The only hits for the Grays were Cool Papa
Bell's double in the first, Jerry "Bozo" Jackson's
single in the 5th and Benjamin's drag bunt in the 8th.
